Romantically Speaking

Once you've figured out your spouse's love language(s), you can figure out better ways to express your love to him. For someone whose love language is Quality Time, they are going to want to take a walk spending time IN the mall, not you buying them a gift FROM the mall and dropping it off on your way to the next appointment. So here are some creative ideas on how to tell your spouse that you love them in a variety of different ways.

*** Leave notes around the house. Aside from I Love You written with lipstick or on a steamy mirror after a shower, why not leave notes or hints around the house that your spouse will find throughout the day. Leave a note that has only a scripture reference in it. Use some to encourage and others to spark excitement and anticipation of your reunion at the end of the day. To find some scriptures dealing with love, just go to Song of Solomon to find just about any verse you would need. Not only will your spouse be touched by your well thought out and romantic love notes, but you will also be encouraging them to read the Bible' possibly finding things they have never read before or had forgotten.

*** Gift Treasure Hunt (this is one of my favorites and one that my husband did for me a few years ago). Put a clue in an easy to find location and write a short poem or few lines giving clues where to look for the next clue or item. If you've got a lot of small gifts this can be fun, especially if they are items that go together. Take your mate all around the house looking for clues and surprises. I was so touched by the end of my treasure hunt, not just from the gifts I received, but from all the work my husband had to do to write out each rhyming clue.

*** Write I Love You on jello with whipped cream, on a cake with icing, or on your body with paint.

*** Cook a dinner together. For the spouse that likes Acts of Service, this is a great way to help and still add a little seasoning to the meal as well as your romance!

Hopefully you can find some ways to incorporate some of these ideas into your marriage. And of course, never forget that men are visual and getting a new piece of lingerie (or a couple if you're up for an intimate fashion show) could spice up your marriage. If you're uncomfortable about shopping for lingerie, oils, or games to keep the passion alive in your marriage, there are many Christian websites that cater to intimate items for married couples.

More ideas to come next time! Until then, I pray that your marriages will grow in the Lord.
