Marriage Resolutions for the New Year
some very good lists that speak to both the positive and the negative sides of our actions and attitudes in marriage.
There is a list for "18 Qualities to Develop in Your Marriage," a list for "Things to Say to Your Spouse," a list for "12 Times to Say 'I'm Sorry'," lists for "Do's of a Marriage" and "Don'ts of a Marriage," along with a host of other lists that you will find practical and worthwhile.
While I could have chosen any one of the lists for a New Year's resolution, these eight "Daily Tips for Your Marriage" are a good place to start.
1. Verbally share the events of the day.
2. Renew statements regarding the relationship.
"I love you."
"You are special to me."
"I missed you."
"I have been looking forward to being with you."
3. Touch each other in meaningful ways -- hugs, kisses, holding hands, sitting close.
4. Remember that communication leads to communication; communication stimulates forgiveness; forgiveness offers grace, which develops intimacy.
5. Show appreciation for something your partner has done -- say thank you.
6. Take turns asking and explaining when you have misunderstood each other.
7. Share hopes and dreams -- a basic to a close relationship.
8. Be a good listener -- no response may be necessary.
If you put these into practice, or even a few of them that are new to you, your marriage will be better this year than it was last year.
Happy New Year and may God bless your marriage in the coming year!
