Making Your Marriage Pleasing To God & Enjoyable For You (Part 2)

When we look at all the verses however, we learn that a wife is supposed to submit to her husband as to the Lord, know that he is the head of the wife (that’s a tough one I know girls), we are to respect him as well and become one flesh with our husband.

Husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her, they are to love their wives as they love themselves, they are to leave their father and mother and become one flesh with their wife.

So there it is, all set out nicely for us to obey. Could you imagine how lovely marriages could be if we really treated each other as God instructs. How different life would be if we thought of just one special act of kindness we could do for our spouse each day.

I encourage you to take some time this week and read Ephesians 5. You will notice that there were no but’s or only if’s throughout. God doesn’t say submit to your husband only if he makes over $100,000.00 a year and gives you a massage every other evening or husbands love your wife as Christ loved the church, but you don’t have to if she’s a real nag and doesn’t have dinner ready for you most evenings.

If you want to make your marriage pleasing to God & enjoyable for you, you must be willing to put the but’s and the only if’s out of your vocabulary. It’s difficult, but it is so worth it. Again, it won’t be easy just keep trying and don’t give up.

This week, take out all the but’s and only if’s and love your husband. Try and do 2-3 nice things for him this week. And try this, if your husband says something that makes you angry or drives you crazy. Stop a moment, think of how you would react if your very good friend said or did this very same thing. I promise you your reaction will be very different. Again, it’s not easy, but don’t give up.

This week, keep communicating with God. Thank Him daily for his attributes that are significant to you each day. Also continue to thank God for your spouse and his characteristics that you love, pray for your children this week as well.

You know the desires and the struggles of your spouse and your children. Bring them before God and ask that He hold your family up with His mighty Hands.

Good luck girls.
