Writer’s Note: For a majority of U.S. mothers with children under the age of 18, making the decision to work full-time or making the choice to stay-at-home weighs heavily on every thread of American motherhood. But what really is the ideal situation for mothers who are trying to balance the mommy scale? One answer may a manageable compromise called part-time work.
In a Pew Research poll release on July 12, 2007, the choice for mothers to work full-time has lost its appeal the last ten years. In the survey, the results are clear: eight in ten mothers say part-time work is their preferred option compared to full-time. With over 70 per cent of women with children under the age of 18 working outside the home, I was surprised that 75 per cent are full-time working moms.
